ENGLISH I

GRADE LEVEL: 9 CREDIT: 1 TX ID: 03220100 PREREQUISITE(S): None Course Description: Students will read multiple genres throughout the course and write both literacy and information compositions. An emphasis is placed on organizing logical arguments with a clearly expressed thesis, supporting evidence, and commentary.

ENGLISH II

GRADE LEVEL: 10 CREDIT: 1 TX ID: 03220200 PREREQUISITE(S): English I Course Description: Students enrolled in English II will increase and refine their communication skills. Students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. An emphasis is placed on persuasive forms of writing such as logical arguments, expressions of opinion, and personal forms of writing.

ENGLISH III

GRADE LEVEL: 11 CREDIT: 1 TX ID: 03220300 PREREQUISITE(S): English II Course Description: Students enrolled in English III will increase and refine their communication skills. English III students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. Students edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English and produce final, error-free drafts. Emphasis is placed on business forms of writing such as the report, the narrative of a procedure, the summary or abstract, and the résumé. English III students read extensively in multiple genres from American literature and other world literature. PSAT/SAT preparation rounds out the instructional year.

ENGLISH IV

GRADE LEVEL: 12 CREDIT: 1 TX ID: 03220400 PREREQUISITE(S): English III Course Description: Students enrolled in English IV continue to increase and refine their communication skills. English IV students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. In English IV, students are expected to write in a variety of forms, including business, personal, literary, and persuasive texts. English IV students read extensively in multiple genres from British literature and other world literature. College Preparatory Standards are incorporated into the curriculum as well.
